Hello.
This is 8000stories.
It’s the little brother of 8000records. Reviews there, stories here. Stories about music.
A long time ago, I had this job writing reviews about music. Totally enjoyed it. I looked at some of the reviews a while ago, and I found it strange how many of the reviews were negative. At least a third of them. Today, I know that it’s a waste of time. Why spend time writing about an album that I think is boring if I can spend the same amount of time pointing towards a really good one?
My experience with the first 18 months of 8000records deepened this conviction. Even if the concept of that blog is to play every record I own and write about it – if I pick a record that doesn’t really move anything inside me and start writing about it the text that is created doesn’t move anything either.
It’s a simple equation. The more passionate I am about a subject, the more likely it is that I will come up with a text that might just be worth reading.
And that’s exactly the purpose of 8000stories. Writing about music and musicians that I find fascinating, and try to answer some questions that keep circling around in my mind. How do you come up with the idea of recording five albums in five days? Why do some musicians get so fed up with the music industry that they quit making music altogether?
I will do my best to do justice to the work and try to have conversations with the artists. The choice of topics is highly subjective, the content hopefully isn’t.
Mostly, this is driven by curiosity and the joy of writing. If this blog creates joy among a few readers, it’s an added layer of happiness.
Thank you for reading.
